New found treasures of Indian Silk Fabric - Phulkari, Hand Embroidered Silks and More

We were on our monthly shopping spree and found some really cool pure silks in Silk city Chennai. These are pure silk fabrics in various textures such as Crepe, Georgette, Katan and Pohampalli. We've also found some hand embroidered silk in stunning color combinations. Its not our claim, see the pictures and you'll understand.

Indian Cotton Fabric - Hand Block Printed Fabrics in Earthy Colors

Lovely hand block printed  cotton fabrics. We received the delivery a few days back. These were in the workshop for more than two weeks. We are so happy to get them. These fabrics are suitable for making dresses, curtains, garden pillow covers, chair cover or bed skirt. All these fabrics are 45 inches wide and carry medium weight (approx 100 grams)

All these fabrics are printed using vegetable dyes, mud and iron ore. So these are 100% organic and no chemical was used while making them.







Pure Silk Fabrics from India - Ikat Silk Fabrics- Pochampally Silks - Tribal Textile Weaving

Indian Silk fabrics are world famous for their colors, variety in texture and designs. Indian Ikat Silk is one of the fabrics that is always admired by the fashion designers around the world. Ikat silk has lovely patterns in extremely beautiful colors. Ikat dying started as  resist dying which is similar to tie-dye technique. According to Wikipedia, term Ikat is derived from the Malay word mengikat  that means "To Tie"Ikat silk in India is either woven on a handloom or printed by the machines. 

Ikat is a traditional textile weaving art common to many cultures worldwide. Likely, it is one of the oldest forms of textile weaving. Ikat has been nurtured world over by the experienced hands of Ikat weaving artists from India, Burma, Indonesia,Cambodia, Central and South Amarica and Uzbekistan with a long history of Ikat production.

In India, Ikat silk is also known as Pochampalli silk fabric. Pochampally or Pochampalli is the name of a place in south India where Ikat silk is produced. Here is a collection of lovely Ikat fabrics that found while selecting and procuring fabrics for one of our customers from Europe. The handloom or Tanta looks as shown in the picture below:

Hand carved wooden stamps - handmade by South African Artisans

These are hand carved wooden stamps from South Africa, we recently procured from one of our suppliers. 
We don't know when, but we plan to make some really serious organic fabric using these wooden stamps ;)

These are handmade by skilled South African artisans.

We use plain make lovely organic fabrics using these blocks or stamps. We will use White cotton, colored cotton, Ahimsa or Khadi fabric, organic cotton fabric, muslin fabric and pure silks for printing. The fabrics will be printed on pre-order basis only.
